I have an eight year old boy also! He enjoys Encyclopedia Brown (me reading, him trying to solve!) and he LOVED LOVED LOVED the Willard Price series! I think the first one is Amazon Adventure. Great boy adventures written by Willard Price who was a photographer for National Geographic. Chock full of animal science information! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThe Willard Price books sound right up his alley! I'll have to check those out--thanks so much, Sarah. :)
DeleteI should warn you that they are full of "boy" adventure...skim them first! The brothers get into lots of fist fights and the such. I think the ONLY time a female is even emntioned is a beautiful python they find that is a female. Our family have found them fine but I would never want to catch anyone "unawares" Enjoy! We both adored these books!
DeleteBenjamin loves the Danny Dragonbreath graphic novels-so do I...they're not only funny but full of cool science facts.
ReplyDeleteOoh! Another we've never heard of--thanks! :)
DeleteI just re-read the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander (fantasy series written in the 60's). Since I don't have kids, it's hard for me to judge at what age they're appropriate and I don't know his reading level. Check them out though. If he's not ready for them yet he may be in a couple years. But put it this way - I still remembered them vividly from when I was about 9-10. They were just as good this time around!
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks, Sara! We will definitely look into those! :)
ReplyDeleteMy boys have LOVED Brian Jacques' Redwall-series. They have read and re-read all the books, and we have listened to some on CD as a family traveling. Excellent clean books (some fighting)!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Thanks, Sennie. I had forgotten about that series!
