Seven Snippets (7.15.12)

-1-

He's happy with all the things he tie-dyed with his kit. Now that he has five shirts (two made last year + three made this week), it may be years before he wears anything other than tie-dye again.  Rick also made a shirt, and I made a skirt, and Gerrick wants us to wear ours as often as he wears his!

We have only gotten so far in reading Harry Potter as his first flying lesson, but already Gerrick has been playing his own version of quidditch, based on the LEGO set he's seen.  Paper balls, hit with paper towel rolls, have been flying all over the house.  He even made a sheet to record which levels have been unlocked.

-3-

He spent two afternoons at Bass Pro Shops' free Family Summer Camp--Tuesday with friends and me, Saturday with his daddy.  He collected the following badges by listening to a 20-minute presentation and writing down answers to scavenger hunt questions for each topic:  archery, wildlife exploration, camping, fishing, backyard adventure.

He was surprised that grizzly bears are actually so big!

One of his favorite parts of the event was the shooting gallery.

-4-

His handwriting is progressing beautifully
(though he says it looks terrible).

-5-

"Would you like me to read this book aloud to you?...This will be the first time I've ever read a book twice." He read a lot again this week, and yes, even this book twice! I haven't asked him to read aloud since February, so I was surprised by his offer.

-7-

There was lots of backyard play in the rain and mud this week;
much was related to LOTR and Uruk-hai.

"There's a problem--bent shovel!"

Have a great week!

  1. Busy boy. Tell him I think his writing is excellent. And the mud looks good too.

  3. Um...his handwriting is AH-mazing! And there is just something so beautiful about little boys covered in mud. Especially when they're not my little boys. :P
