Since recently reading the library book Uncle Andy's: A Faabbbulous Visit with Andy Warhol, Gerrick has been looking forward to visiting the Warhol exhibit at the Frist Center. We went this afternoon and he really enjoyed it. He was particularly excited to see some of the soup cans! I'm sure we'll be going back before the exhibit ends on September 11. (Thanks to the Frist for offering very reasonable teacher memberships for home educators and admitting children for free.) Below is a great video that will give you a glimpse of Warhol Live: Music and Dance in Andy Warhol's Work...
Later, we enjoyed making some art of our own.
Experimenting with texture...
Creating album covers...
Making sculptures...
Stop-motion animating...
Printmaking...

I am so stinkin' excited to see some Warhol up close and personal. I may as well purchase the membership. Does it last a year? I went to the site but my computer is acting funky today. I couldn't navigate the page well.
ReplyDeleteYes. An annual teacher membership is $25.00. Regular adult admission is $10.
ReplyDeleteSherry - I checked out the website and saw that you need a valid teacher ID to get a membership. Do you get those from the umbrella school you go through, or somewhere else?
ReplyDeleteSuper fun!! :-)
ReplyDeleteStephanie, if you have an umbrella school, they often give an ID. If you are an independent homeschooler registered with the county who isn't issued an ID, you can join Homeschool Buyers Co-op for free online and print your own ID. That's what I do. Every place I have tried has accepted this ID with no questions asked (Frist, Cheekwood, Zoo, JoAnn's,...) http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/homeschool-id/
