I initially posted about our first gardens in March. Gerrick decided to put his blue box in the back corner of the yard next to my raised bed. The yellow bucket is for water; we water from it with a cup. The tomatoes that I started from seed died, so I bought new plants at the local farmer's market. They don't seem to be thriving, but then again, I have no idea what I'm doing, so maybe they just need more time. Gerrick hasn't been watering his garden as often as I've been watering mine, and consequently, his hasn't grown as much. He doesn't seem to care.
My first zucchini!
Gerrick said, "WHOA! That is SO cool!"
Pick, wash, slice, eat.
I could get used to this!
(Love my spiral slicer, by the way.)
Zucchini "spaghetti" with tomato & basil sauce (from a jar!).
Gerrick ate a bit with Herbamare with his lunch.
How does your garden grow?
We have peas from our raised garden beds - so exciting!!!
ReplyDeleteMy garden isn't nearly as organized as yours, though! I have one tomato plant alive from the seeds I planted, and I wouldn't exactly say it is thriving...
Woohoo on the zucchini! Perhaps you could try the cucumber again but with seeds instead of a plant. Cukes don't like to be transplanted and actually germinate fairly quickly, so you still have time if you throw a few seeds into the ground.
ReplyDeleteOur poor garden is darn near swimming lately with all this rain we've had, but everything is still growing and we've been picking strawberries and radishes between showers.
You garden looks happy. The zucchini spaghetti looks really good! My garden is growing really well, but I hesitate to say that. I haven't even blogged about it because none of my other gardening attempts have amounted to much. Crossing my fingers and biting my nails!
ReplyDeleteI love your set-up for support -- what is that? And hey, it looks like you have a gardener in-house!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you have something. That zucchini really took off after all of this rain I can see! I have a ton of herbs and that is about it. I got one pepper off of a plant and nothing else. It's a little discouraging.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden! I carefully erected supports for our beans, only to find out that they were labeled wrong and are bush, not pole, beans. Ah well. I love the look of that spiral slicer...zucchini spaghetti sounds great!
ReplyDeleteLovely post. Your gardens are coming along nicely.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteAliceson, I certainly did not know that about cuke plants--thank you. I definitely need to throw some seed in that square. :)
Sally, I followed directions in the book All New Square Foot Gardening for making the support. It is half-inch electrical conduit, elbow connectors, and trellis netting. Two 18-inch long rebar supports were driven into the ground and the conduit is just slid over them. :)
