Halloween 2010

Every 5th Sunday the 1st-5th grade children at our church take the church bus and visit a nearby assisted living center during their class time and sing to the residents.  Today was Gerrick's first day to attend so Rick and I took him and stayed so we could get a feel for how things are done.  He was very uncomfortable--mostly, I think, because he didn't know the words to most of the songs and couldn't read the words on signs that were being held up by a leader.  Afterward, I expected him to say he didn't want to go back, but what he actually said was that he didn't want Rick and me to go again!

Later, we visited with some of our favorite church family before going to a Pumpkin Festival.

Playing...while waiting for the trick-or-treating to begin.

Trick-or-treating along the wooded walking path at the park.

Lots of fun and games...

...and even smores!
We hope you had a Happy Halloween!

Dinosaur World

Thanks to Groupon, I was able to buy some reasonably priced tickets to Dinosaur World.  I wasn't sure what I'd think of this place, but gorgeous weather and an almost empty park made for quite a pleasant day.  The only complaint I had was the noise level.  The property is right next to the interstate, and the traffic was so loud that I had to practically yell while reading the signs on the path so that Gerrick could hear me.  He didn't seem to mind, though; in fact, he really enjoyed himself.

There is a fossil dig (He got to keep three!), a "Touch and Tell" station, a movie cave, and a boneyard.

There is also a small museum.
Each item usually had a toy dinosaur next to it for child-friendly identification.

And, of course, there is the dinosaur trail.

(Yes, he is wearing a dinosaur snout which he brought with him from home.
He also had to wear his dinosaur shirt and dinosaur silly bandz.)

I have an extra adult pass (reg. $12.75 + tax) to the Kentucky park.  It expires Jan. 12, 2011.
If you would like it, leave a comment.  I will mail it to the first person who responds.

Another Mud Rescue

Do you remember the last time Gerrick got his boots stuck in the mud?
This time we happened to be under a tornado watch, so I specifically told him to stay out of the deep mud.
(To be fair, he had no idea about the tornado watch; he never would've stepped foot outside had he known.)

Oops!

The birds were screaming, "Hurry, hurry!  The storm is coming!"

And because he panics and won't pull his boots out of the mud unless I'm standing over him talking him through it, I had to wade out into the gunk.

And another pair of socks bites the dust.

(Don't worry, we were able to get hosed off and safely back inside before the tornado warning was issued, and we never had an actual tornado in our area.  But I think next time we'll stick to the sidewalks when storms are impending.)

Ninja in Nashville

We went to the 10th Annual Ghost Story Festival at the Tennessee State Museum.

Here are the highlights...

We liked that they had small toys instead of candy for treats.

The spoon/tissue ghost was by far the best craft activity.

Yep.  That's about it.
We won't be making this event a tradition.

However, prowling the city in ninja-mode might be worth repeating.

Lakeschooling

We went to our local lakeside park yesterday afternoon and enjoyed the perfect weather.
We had a picnic and then the day's lessons.

Then he went exploring while I read.
He would bring me things to share from time to time like this woolly oak gall.

He asked me to take a picture of this fairy house.

He found some "treasure"...

...and built a waterfall.

Throughout the afternoon magnificent blue herons were gliding overhead.
He was so engrossed in his play, though, that he never saw this one sneaking past him.
