Great Outdoor Challenge--Day 5

Yesterday, Cider & Faun mentioned walking to a thrift store, and I recall the gang from Ordinary Life Magic walking to the library and various other places quite frequently. The thought of being able to walk to fresh books on a nice day makes me salivate, so today I asked Gerrick if he'd like us to try to walk to Goodwill. His jaw dropped and he didn't believe I was serious at first, but he was giddy at the thought of such an adventure. Our local Goodwill is only about a 5 minute drive from our house, so how long do you think it took us to walk there, considering that there are no sidewalks at least half of the way and no proper crosswalks?

Gerrick was excited to see the creek from a different perspective as we crossed over it.

After 30 minutes of walking, we needed a water break.

Finally, a total of 45 minutes later, we made it to our destination...

...and scored some good stuff. In addition to the books we found, Gerrick also purchased some yarn that, apparently, he needed for trap-setting.

I also bought this bird print, which will look nice once I update the frame with a coat of paint.

We needed some sustenance before making our trek back home, so we ate a delicious lunch at a little Chinese restaurant. Upon leaving it, we spotted a local produce shop! Who knew our little town had a produce shop?! What a surprise! Apparently it has been open for several months. We looked around and bought some strawberries...

...then headed back home.

This time he found some dried bamboo (of course, he had to bring it home). He looked around, saw none growing anywhere, and wanted to know how it got there. We finally concluded it must have blown off someone's truck.

Once back to our neighborhood, he played on the playground with some other kids while I collapsed rested on a bench. (I think we'll both sleep well tonight!)

Play along with us during the month of April for Children and Nature Awareness Month by posting a picture of your child(ren) each day enjoying the outdoors! Share your link at 5 Orange Potatoes and see what others are doing. Also, be sure to check out the virtual Family Nature Club over at Ordinary Life Magic (Too.).

  4. Thanks for letting us know how much time it took by foot to walk a 5 min. car ride. We have a library about the same distance (maybe 7 mins) and I know we've walked longer distances at parks, etc. but have been hesistant to walk along the street. Looks like you guys had a great time, so maybe we'll try it too :)

  5. Looks like you had an eventful day. I wish anything was close enough for us to walk to. We live in a very rural area and it takes about 20 minutes or more to reach anything.
