2 yrs ago we tried to raise a whole bunch of moth caterpillars, but it didn't work out--we couldn't find a large enough supply of the leaves they needed. (Another failed attempt at bringing AL wildlife to TN!) But they were fun to watch while they lasted--the frass was particularly interesting to G. ;)
We did monarchs when we lived there. David C. took us out to places where he knew of that had a lot of milkweed. He helped us get enough caterpillars and leaves and eggs and stuff. Very fun. I also took the kids to the butterfly launch at Union Elementary (anyone can go, you don't have to go to school there). It's pretty neat. Ask David or Tessa about it if you're interested.
