Gerrick enjoyed making it, but one sip was all he needed to proclaim, "It's disgusting!" I'm sure tea is just an acquired taste. I thought it was pretty good compared to the few other teas I've tried in the past. Do you like tea? Maybe you should give this recipe a try. :)

Russian Berry Tea
This week we've been reading Another Celebrated Dancing Bear which is part of the Five in a Row curriculum. The story is set in Russia, so we've been learning lots of interesting facts about the country. According to our readings, many Russians like to drink tea--a lot of tea. We don't drink tea in our family (except for good ol' Southern sweet tea), so we decided to try this recipe from the book Russia A to Z.

I love tea, but I'm half British (all Israelis are half and halves, or even quarters, because for most of us - our grandparents were the ones who came to Israel so we're only the third generation here!! Strange to think of it sometimes) so I like my tea with earl grey, and milk.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend is Russian (and I used to hang around with a lot of Russian) so yes, they love tea. Their cuisine is a bit weird for my taste - LOTS of meat, and potatoes.
They have two other "national" drinks - compot, which is made of fruit, I'm not sure how, and kvas, which is somewhat like non-alcoholic beer.
Love to read of your explorings :)
Perhaps you could study Israel sometime, you can do it without getting into the whole complicated situation we are in now, there are lots more things to learn about - historically wise.
I LOVE tea, but I've never tried this kind. Looks like a great experiment, though, and at least he tried it!
ReplyDeleteSounds lovely, we must try this tea. Thank you for sharing such a nice activity.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a tea person (though I love the smell!), but this one sounds really good. I may have to give it a try. Thanks for posting the recipe!
ReplyDeleteI only like Southern sweet tea. I hate traveling up north, or to Orlando, where there is no sweet tea. Unsweet tea and fancy teas are gross to me. For a fun comparison have ya'll tried real Japanese green tea?
ReplyDeleteIf you ever try the Apologia series or Tapestry of Grace, let me know how you like it. I am thinking that I might get them next year.
I drink loads of tea, mostly chai. Kiddo likes to have his "tea" with me, which is essentially a small amount of hot water with milk and honey. He also likes to drink unsweetened herbal (in fruit flavors) ice tea since I refuse to buy beverages with sugar. (I am so mean.)
ReplyDeleteI love tea, haven't tried making it myself, usually use the tea bags and that's it. This sounds easy and fun. Thanks for sharing it. Looks like the little one had a blast. :)
