To help Gerrick learn about money, we've started giving him an allowance that is divided among his three new jar banks: Saving, Giving, Spending. I knew that this is something I wanted to do when he turned five, but when I saw these jar banks at Wisdom and Grace, I got really excited. :)
We do not tie this money to chores or anything else. It is simply money for him to manage. Here are some really good articles about money and children that helped us come to our decisions of why and how to give an allowance:

They look great! I am going to check out those links.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
That looks like a good idea. I have been contemplating our allowance options. I am not ready to bestow an allowance yet but this will give me some good reading. Thanks for the links.
ReplyDeleteI like the jars! We give an allowance to the kids (ages 4.5, 3.5) for the same reasons you cited. We have two chore charts: one is called "Daily Chores" and the other is called "Chores for Hire." We only pay on the chores for hire (cleaning toilet/tub, vacuuming, laundry, sweeping, taking out trash...) because these are big jobs for little ones. I'll have to post our system on my blog.
ReplyDeletethanks for posting this one. We've been contemplating the whole idea of allowance....
