I had thought that the Lowe's and Home Depot clinics would be a great way to get Rickey and Gerrick out of the house from time to time so that I could get some housework done. Well, Rickey has the flu, so I took Gerrick to the Home Depot clinic today. All I can say is I AM SO SORRY I SUBJECTED MY HUSBAND TO THIS TORTURE EVEN ONCE!!! Ten or so kids hammering under glaring fluorescent lights while Disney's Cars movie blares on a TV is not my idea of quality time with my child. There was so much stimulation that Gerrick could hardly focus on his project. I left with a craft Gerrick barely even noticed he had helped ME put together and a huge headache. On the way to the car, I asked him if from now on he'd like to just pick up the project and take it home to do it. His response, "Yes! It was so loud in there it hurt my ears!" They just hand you a package of materials and an instruction sheet, so next time we'll just say thanks and carry our free kit out the door. :)
gosh I wonder why they have the TV on? I would so complain.
ReplyDeleteIt's usually not to busy at our Lowes/Home Depot, but the one right before Valentines where they had trinket boxes was "sold out" sorta speak.
The TV in the background is ridiculous.....I would complain. The experience sounds horrific, but you got some really cute pictures out of it. :)
ReplyDeleteI need to find out if our home depot has this... so I can get a kit, the rest sounds awful... Kiddo would love those race tracks.
ReplyDeleteAt least the aprons are cute..if nothing else. Thanks for sharing -- we have one close by, I'll think twice now.
ReplyDeleteWe are learning about incline planes now...I need to stop by Home Depot and see if I can get a kit. TV? Seriously? That's horrible!
ReplyDeleteWe went to the Home Depot yesterday and made this same craft. It was a sunny day so they set up an area to work on out in the parking lot. It worked great. It is just always a juggle trying to get three kids projects done even with my husband there to help too. But my kids are looking forward to painting the little cars and track tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWe have always enjoyed the workshops but they are a bit crazy with so many kids hammering and grabbing at the same time. But it is free.
I agree the TV is way too much stimulation on top of everything else.
Maybe I was a little hard on Home Depot in general. I'm sure each location handles these events a little differently. Taking it outside like the one in Sea Star's neighborhood would have helped a lot! All the hammering wouldn't be reverberating off the walls of a small room, the florescent lights (that I hate) would be eliminated, and of course--NO TV!!
ReplyDeleteAnd on another note, if you have multiple children it might actually be easier for you to do the project there because they do have people walking around offering assistance. So like anything else--try it for yourself and see how it works for you...but we're still going to get our kits to go. ;)
Oh I'm so sad to hear that. The HD here is always outside, but the Lowes is inside and it is very loud. I've never seen a tv on at any of them.
