Ancient Egypt Resource Round-up

It seems that Gerrick's Ancient Egypt project is drawing to a close. He's working on a book now (gluing and taping pictures into a composition book) and we're still mummifying our apple, but otherwise, I think we're done. Here is a list of his favorite resources.

We checked out a lot of books, but these are the ones he went back to again and again:
If I Were a Kid in Ancient Egypt
Egypt in Spectacular Cross-Section
Mummy (DK/Google)
Egyptian Mummies (Fast Forward)
Mummies, Pyramids, and Pharoahs: A Book About Ancient Egypt
Mummies Made in Egypt
The Nile River (Rookie Read-About Geography)
We're Sailing Down the Nile
Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile (FYI, the author incorrectly identifies a coffin as a sarcophagus in this story.)
Pyramids!: 50 Hands on Activities to Experience Ancient Egypt
Egyptians (Craft Topics)
The Moses Basket
Rabbit Ears Classic Bible Stories Audio Book: Moses in Egypt

Things we bought:
(For a couple of weeks he pretended that an area under a table in our house was a tomb. He decorated it with these things. Later he sorted & displayed his favorites on his magnetic project board. He's currently transferring most of them into his own book about Egypt.)
Ancient Egyptian Costumes paper dolls
Ancient Egyptian Art: 24 Cards
Top Trumps--Ancient Egypt

Printables:
World Map
Africa Map
Make Your Own Cartouche
Counting by 1's up to 100 Mummy Maze
Heiroglyphics
Miscellaneous Images

Online Games & Other Interesting Links:
Make a Mummy (Thanks Stephanie!)
Senet
King Tut's Tomb

Good Short Online Videos:
Egyptian Mummies
The Gift of the Nile

Other Videos & Movies he really liked:
Ancient Civilizations for Children: Ancient Egypt
Egypt: Engineering an Empire (Netflix Instant View)
The Ten Commandments (G)
The Prince of Egypt (PG)
The Mummy (PG-13)
The Mummy Returns (PG-13)
Abbott & Costello Meet the Mummy (Netflix Instant View)

We didn't use these, but they look interesting, so we may refer to them at a later date.
Egyptian Fonts
Egyptian Mad Libs
Chicken Mummy (Thanks Alycia!)
Ancient Egypt Toob
Playmobil has a new Egyptian line of toys.

  4. What a great job with the unit. We've read SOTW once, but I'm really thinking about re-doing it with more activities...I really like how hands on your Egyptian unit was.
